Animal Law

Green Party Policy

  1. Publicly funded animal welfare department
  2. Local 24-hour animal welfare officers
  3. 2-tier dog licensing (breeding and non-breeding)
  4. Amend 'Dangerous Dogs - onus is on guardian, not dog
  5. Humane research (ban all animal tests)
  6. Clear legal protection as sentient beings
  7. Public education on First Strike - links between human and animal crime

Strict safety labelling, like for antifreeze: For now, buy safer (none are safe) versions, and clean (don't mop) spills, and take the rest down to toxic waste. It's best to just let your mechanic change antifreeze for you. A new law is coming into effect in several areas, to add a compulsory bittering agent, to protect animals.
